FRAGMENTS

  • Etcetera Theatre 265 Camden High Street London, England, NW1 7BU United Kingdom (map)

Identity, colonial wounds, and the bonds that shape us... a raw and unflinching exploration of pain, resilience, and healing.

‘They bite you, beat you, then kill you— you don’t die...it’s death, just a different kind’ - Fragments

Weaving together realism, spoken word poetry, music, and physical theatre, Fragments takes you on a journey through the eyes of Ifemelu, a Black African woman who courageously reflects on the legacy of colonialism, the scars of gender-based violence, and the haunting echoes of generational trauma. Through evocative narratives, Ifemelu confronts the complexities of race relations, the ongoing struggle for equality, and the enduring bonds that shape our lives. Her journey is deeply personal and universally relatable, offering moments of laughter, discomfort, and profound human connection.

The play, written by Nigerian poet and storyteller Pearl Ada and directed by Dominican-American director Catherine Mieses, features an all-global majority creative team. Poet and composer Tamiko Dooley serves as a creative collaborator. Pearl Ada stars as Ifemelu and Haitian-American actor Cedric Dumornay as Òtíḿkpú.
