VIDEO NASTIES GENRE FILMFEST 2: THE SICK-QUEL
This is no ordinary cabaret. Sarah has been the muse of industry legends for over two decades. This is her life story.
Following an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, The Sarah McGuinness Story is set to transfer to London. The Emmy-nominated documentary maker and musician, also known as an industry muse to entertainment legends, has turned the lens on herself to present a brand new poignant and powerful cabaret telling her life story. The critically acclaimed director of Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story and Noma: the story of Noma Dumezweni presents an extraordinary musical journey of her own life, blending the power of live performance and memory. The Sarah McGuinness Story runs from 15th Sept - 4th October at Etcetera Theatre in Camden.
Through the music of David Bowie, Kate Bush, Kurt Weill, Sondheim and Kander & Ebb’s “Cabaret” as well as a few of her own songs, this production takes audiences from Sarah’s childhood on the Irish border in Derry, examining both her complicated relationship with her Irish roots and her family’s dysfunction, through to the heights of her international success as her life intertwines with entertainment icons.
Turning her award-winning documentary process on herself and working in collaboration with Luisa Omielan, Angela Vargos and Jessica Willcocks Skeggs, McGuinness has delved into long forgotten memories, traumatic and hilarious in equal measure for the new production. Witness this powerhouse of a woman standing in her own force, breaking past the damage inflicted on her to find her own voice and take control of the narrative.
She draws a line in the sand against past oppressors with the help of epic songs such as Life on Mars and Babooshka. Be a part of the rallying cry for a better world whilst getting an intriguing insight into life amongst A-list celebrities, and hearing about the unexpected bonds formed with Hollywood legends.
Sarah McGuinness said: “Never listen to a gobshite”.
“This is my own life story which only made sense after my mother’s death, when a close relative unlocked buried memories which completely changed my understanding of my early life and the negative self image it forced on me, while making me uniquely able to unlock the talents of others. It is a collection of stories and songs, well known and original, through which for the first time I am telling the truth about my life that I have been asked to reveal so often before.”

As seen at the Edinburgh Fringe drawing from experiences of working in mental health, prepare for a night of humour and heart in Your Therapist Is Clueless. Weaving together hilarious anecdotes, poignant stories, and unexpected moments of insight from the everyday absurdities to the profound connections formed with clients and colleagues, this show offers a unique perspective on the highs and lows of working in a mental health drop in service. Prepare to laugh, reflect, and maybe even shed a tear as we navigate through the world of mental health with wit, warmth, and an unwavering sense of humanity.

Matt Price - Raging Bill
Standup Comedian Matt Price spent 18 months training to win a trophy to honour the memory of his Grandad – Raging Bill Price - after he found some boxing trophies in his Grandad’s attic. As Kate Copstick from the Scotsman said of the show when she reviewed it at the Edinburgh Festival, “It is a story-telling, grandad-loving, face-punching, gangster-reminiscing, nursery-rhyme-singing, tear in yer eye, laugh out loud joy of an hour…”
She also described Matt’s interaction with the crowd as “beyond impressive.”
The show isn’t actually about boxing, there is a lot more to it than that. But you will definitely want to know what happens next. Most amateur fighters have their first fight within a few months. It took Matt 18 months before he was “ready.” So how and why does a painfully shy 21 year old go to a boxing gym and spend so long pursuing a sport he has zero talent for? Why does he hate Humpty Dumpty but love karaoke?
When you look at the screenshot from his fight, you might also be wondering. Which one is Matt? (It’s okay. Everyone asks that!)
This is a very funny show about getting back up when life has hit you hard. Years later and having been through some ups and downs, Matt learns something about himself that you’ll not forget! But you will love it.
I WOULD DREAM
The poetry show I WOULD DREAM is dedicated to a man named Moon. This performance consists both of new and old verses, published and yet unpublished.
I wish that in the end, maybe you will leave with a tear in the corner of your eye because what we share, is our loneliness in life.
The Sarah McGuinness Story: GRIT, GLITTER & Gaslight! A Cabaret Musical

The Big Dream
In this one woman play, Tillie navigates the pressures of being a young person in a world where people constantly question her Big Dream. She challenges what the perfect order really means and makes people question how their childhood perception can be artificially coloured. This play teaches that art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. She tells a story through music and the power of the imagination.
The Sarah McGuinness Story: GRIT, GLITTER & GASLIGHT! A Cabaret Musical

The Decriminalisation Monologues
Winner of the National GALA Award for Irish Arts and Entertainment. Nominated for Best New Play: Brighton Fringe, Prague Fringe, Manchester Fringe.
Moira, an ambitious young civil servant in 1970s Dublin, is forced to confront being blackmailed at work for who she is. Does she just submit to it, or fight back and risk everything that she’s worked for?
Mark moves, very reluctantly, from London to rural Ireland to live with his Irish boyfriend where they start up a gay friendly guesthouse and is surprised when it becomes a big success. But it’s the 1980’s, gay men are dropping like flies, and when tragedy strikes he is forced to confront a society that doesn’t acknowledge his existence.
Homosexuality was finally decriminalised in Ireland in June 1993. The thousands of gay people imprisoned, taunted and brutalised by the State finally received an apology on the 25th anniversary of this event.
The Decriminalisation Monologues tells the stories of the ordinary gay people who showed the courage and bravery that ensured that equality finally came.
These stories are drawn from discussions with older gay people in Ireland. Stories that will shock today’s generation. Stories that show how we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ NORTH WEST END
‘It is a true example of theatre that can change the way you think and it will resonate with me for a long, long time. ‘
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BRITISH THEATRE GUIDE
“The Decriminalisation Monologues is a powerful play and a tribute to the courage of those people willing to challenge everyday injustice.”
