Dead Souls

This new translation by Illya Khodosh of Mikhail Bulgakov’s 1932 adaptation of Gogol's classic novel, Dead Souls, follows the exploits of Chichikov, a social climbing conman, as he journeys aboard his troika through the Russian countryside purchasing dead serfs. Dead Souls is a hilarious and pointed satire of Imperial Russian aristocracy. The first ever English production of Bulgakov’s famous adaptation, this show brings an important piece of theatre history to life with original, often bizarre staging well suited for Gogol’s epic of the everyday grotesque. Oddities emerge. Comedy ensues.
